September 11th & 12th - A Very
Brillant Party

“A Very Brilliant Party” is the annual friend/fund raiser
for Liberty Hall Historic Site in which an aspect of the Brown
Family’s experiences is celebrated. The title comes from a quote by
Margaretta Mason Brown, when she describes “a very brilliant party”
she attended in New York City. The theme of this year’s party will
be “A Kentucky Dandy and His Lady.”
Orlando Brown, son of Senator John and Margaretta Brown, and his
wife Mary Watts Brown, were the perfect picture of an aristocratic
couple living in the Romantic Era (1820-1837), a transitory period
between the Regency and Victorian Eras. The menu, music, decorations
and exhibits will be based on Orlando and Mary’s tumultuous
courtship, marriage, and their lives together. During the party,
there will be exhibits throughout the house about Orlando and Mary’s
lives in the home designed for them in 1835 by famed architect
Gideon Shryock. The evening will feature music from the Romantic
Period, from composers such as Brahms, Chopin, and Strauss. We’ll
also compete for a grand raffle and silent auction items.
“A Very Brilliant Party” will be held on two nights; Thursday,
September 11th, and Friday, September 12th. Tickets are $75 per
person, call 502-227-2560 to reserve your seats at this romantic
step into the past.

Ghosts of Frankfort
Halloween Fun with a Historical Twist: Take
the “Ghosts of Frankfort” Tour
Liberty Hall Historic Site and the City of Frankfort’s Department of
Parks and Recreation invite the public to attend the 14th
annual “Ghosts of Frankfort Tour”. Take a walk through time and
meet the residents of Liberty Hall, learn about their famous and
sometimes infamous lives and deaths. Visit 1864 Frankfort – soldiers
in camp, artillerymen practicing the loading and firing of their
cannon, and women mourning for their dead loves.
Guests start the
evening at the Orlando Brown House, 202 Wilkinson Street, where they
enjoy refreshments and participate in spooktacular vintage Halloween
crafts, games and other activities. Guides then lead the group to
Liberty Hall where “ghosts” of the Brown family tell “haunting”
historical tales of love and loss. Afterwards bus shuttles take
guests to Fort Hill where they will be greeted by Civil War soldiers
and a 3,000 year old mummy.
Tours are at 5:30pm,
6:30pm, 7:30pm, 8:30pm, and 9:30pm each night. Reservations are
required. Cost is $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and
under. Call 502/227-2560 or toll free 1-888-516-5101 for
information or to make reservations.
